Our Research

The Jokerst Bioimaging Lab harnesses biomedical imaging techniques to advance human health. Our focus lies primarily on ultrasound imaging, drawn to its balance of affordability and notable temporal and spatial resolution. We strive to improve image contrast via nanoscale contrast agents, which double as drug delivery vehicles. We also employ photoacoustic imaging, using a “light in/sound out” approach to improve contrast versus the “sound in/sound out” conventional ultrasound imaging. The technique capitalizes on the thermal expansion of targeted tissue or contrast agents after a nano-second light pulse. Our exploration of photoacoustic imaging spans a wide array of applications toward human health. Explore further by clicking on the triangle to learn more about our efforts to improve human health.
